LivingRoom:

I am so glad we painted this room.  Before, it was a baby blue, not warm at all.  I just didn’t like the knotty pine beams for the beach house – (maybe a ski lodge?)

Before:

After:

The color choice (Benjamin Moore Caramel Creme) and white trim really warmed up the room – now to bring our furniture & start putting the place together for the summer!

I knew it was out there – scoured, searched & googled – just became obsessed with Hutches!  I love them so much, we might have more than one…..

Transforming this behemoth will be a labor-of-love!  She sure is pretty, with great bones.  Just needs some TLC to bring it into the millenium.  This piece will be very functional and has the potential to add some wonderful beach-cottage charm.

($80 Craigslist)

I love how the colonial “bridge” mirrors that of the coffee table 🙂

It weighs a ton – solid Maple with lovely divided, felt utensil-drawers , it’s beautiful in its craftsmanship.

Well, it definitely has great potential, but quite the ambitious project for us!

Cyberspace inspiration:

Here is the shed before:

TADA – we’re almost done with the renovation – carpeting being installed this week – trundle beds purchased!

Beach View 🙂    A Room With a View!

Instead of doing the window-seat, I found this sweet bench in a local 2nd hand store:

It fit so perfectly, plus no sanding, priming & painting for this one – just love the color!

It was a long and arduous search to find just the right coffee table for the beach house!  Wanting a cottage feel, but preferring old furniture (and not wanting to spend thousands) we wavered… Until I found a piece with great lines, not too big and $30 on Craigslist.

While Chris was sanding, he noticed that it is a “Cushman Colonial – Bennington Original) – perhaps from the 1930s or 1940s – some are valued at $400-$500 and solid maple.

A similar table appears below:

Cushman Catalog 1940

So we felt a bit guilty painting this table I have to admit!

Right now it’s painted “Glacier White” a bit stark, I may have to soften it a bit, but it is gorgeous!

If I really had some crafting courage, it would be fun to do something like this:

MY SHELL MIRROR:

Every beach house needs a shell mirror!  During this brutal, long, long winter, it has been so therapeutic to envision our lovely little home and warmer times!  Found some beautiful inspiration mirrors:

  $1275

After purchasing an Ikea mirror, I realized it wouldn’t work, so I decided to use this one

–  Love how it came out!

Found these 2 brand new chairs on E-bay $100 each – they are great – comfortable, small and with the pillows, just beachy!

Since I love love antiques, must have a few at the beach house too!  This is a turn of the century needlepoint fireplace screen (found on ebay).  Our fireplace is not in working condition and is a bit too modern for my liking.  I’m hoping by adding the screen, it will soften the look a bit.

Cute little table

Loved this map tapestry from Anthropology – not sure what we’ll do with it, but loved the color!

Will talk about the coffee table later (see new crack  uh oh)

Ok enough already with the turquoise aqua = overkill

This blog has been a great way to organize all our ideas for beach cottage decorating.  We’re heading up to our new place to check on “her” since we’ve had so much snow!  This picture was taken by our brother-in-law, who was kind enough to look in:

We’ll need to bring our shovel, but hopefully the warmer weather has melted some of the snow by now!

I decided to photograph the various things I’ve been picking up here and there.  I’ll be bringing most of it to our place so it’s not sitting in our living room corner in boxes!

Got this great dinnerware on super-sale at Macy’s – 16 place settings/beach theme & great color!  Hoping to have many family dinners & parties!

Various pillows, quilts, sheets

Some fun Nautical Decor!

Inspired by turquoise and seahorses!

Bathroom Stuff

My favorite – a Christmas gift from Mom:-)

I have had some great luck in finding art/wall stuff this January and February, Home Goods, Marshalls and TJ Maxx and some online stores are giving the beach-themed items away – it’s been a great time to shop!

Love the shell & rope doorstoppers!

I think I have enough prints with clams!
